Feng Shui... Your Hotel Room!
by P.K. Odle, The Feng Shui Advantage
Your hotel room is your “home away from home” while traveling. The two most important concerns are your safety and comfort during your stay. When it comes to the Feng Shui of your hotel room, keep in mind… there are four levels to a comprehensive Feng Shui analysis of any building, which are:
- Form School – what you can identify with your eyes both inside and outside your room.
- Xuan Kong Energies – the unseen energy patterns in each sections of a house, condo, hotel or hotel room, which are calculated using the exact 15° compass orientation of the building and the year it was built.
- East / West Theory – the general influences of the 45° magnetic directions, according to the building’s magnetic orientation and your Personal Trigram, especially useful for a restful night’s sleep.
- 15° Personal Directions – the most specific ways you’re influences by the building’s magnetic orientation and the location of its doors / windows and your bed position.
It’s understandable that few of you will want a complete Feng Shui analysis of a hotel room… where on average your stay will be about a week. After all, you’re affected by the Feng Shui energy patterns of a building through prolonged exposure. Although, I know of at least a few couples… who have the Feng Shui energies of their hotel rooms to thank for an addition to their family about 9 months after their vacation.
If you have trouble sleeping, you could request a room where the headboard is oriented toward your most restful sleeping direction. However, I’m more likely to switch hotel rooms because of odors or noise. Anything that’s an offense to one of your 5 senses is a ‘SHA’ or negative affect in Feng Shui and should be avoided.
Here are a few Form School influences that would also cause me to request another room or at least make a few adjustments of my own…
- Keep the bathroom door closed or ajar, if there is a direct view into the bathroom from the bed in your hotel room. Also, remember to close the lid to keep germs from spreading 6 feet in every direction when flushing the toilet.
- LARGE MIRRORS in the bed area of your hotel room makes the Qi / energy more Yang, which keeps you awake. Mirrors reflect light, which is a Yang or active energy. However, you want the Qi where you sleep to be more Yin or still, and therefore, restful. If you find large mirrors in the bed area of your hotel room, ask for another room… or at least keep the shades closed when you’re out for the day.
- A protruding corner where two walls come together… AND pointing directly toward your bed or the doorway to your hotel room. This creates a direct hit of Qi, which is unhealthy and when directed toward the bed prevents you from having a restful night’s sleep. Either move the bed or request another room.
- Exposed beams over your bed have the same negative affect on your health and sleep. You might come across this in a bed & breakfast, if so request another room or move the bed.
- Avoid hotels where the doors to individual rooms are directly across the hall from another room, because that causes opposition. Plus, from my experience it increases the noise level, because doors aren’t insulated.
- Request rooms away from the noisiest areas, such as near the elevator or ice machines, even though they may be more convenient.
