Where to AVOID Digging and/or
Construction in 2008... and Why!
by P.K. Odle, The Feng Shui Advantage
Wait, as far as Classical Feng Shui is concerned, the New Year doesn’t begin until the first day of the Chinese SOLAR year which is the 4th or 5th of February. Each year the Chinese Solar calendar begins at the precise halfway point between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox. In 2008 the exact moment the Chinese SOLAR year begins is on February 4th at 7:03 p.m. local time. That is also when the Universal or Annual Feng Shui energy shift occurs, which has a unique affect on each building’s inherent energy patterns. Some years your circumstances will improve because the Annual Energy shift balances or neutralizes sabotaging energies at your entrances or in your bedrooms and/or offices. Unfortunately in other years the visiting Annual Energies contributes to disasters by acting as a trigger for sabotaging energy patterns or they create a negative combination of energies for that one year.
This explains why one year can be better or worse in the same house, even when you haven’t changed a thing. Therefore, I recommend all my clients have Annual Updates to avoid dealing with these negative or sabotaging energy combinations that contribute to health, relationship and/or financial problems. Once I analyze the current year's annual energy influences on their building’s inherent energy patterns, I can update their remedies on the copy of their floor plan I have in my files. My clients receive their updated remedy outline by mail and call me with any questions they have as they’re preparing to or are making the necessary changes to their elemental remedies. This is why I always advise my clients to implement their remedies using accessories that are easily transferred from room to room, when necessary, according to the affects of the Annual Energy shift.
With the upcoming Annual Energy shift on February 4th, I’d like to remind you yet again… that painting your entrance doors Red or Black is NOT advised in Classical Feng Shui. When certain annual energies visit the area at a door that’s painted red (a fire color) or black (a water color) it triggers specific problems, such as arguments, lawsuits, separation/divorce, accidents, delays, pain and/or illness. From year to year, if your entrance requires a water or fire colored remedy… it’s better to use an actual water fountain or a fire colored area rug or other fire colored decorations, because it takes so much effort to repaint a door, a wall, or furniture when a sabotaging energy visits and you’re advised to change remedies for that year.
Due to the cyclical nature of Feng Shui, your home and office experiences an Annual Lock twice every 9 years, when certain energy patterns combine. These locks cause overall Money or People problems for all the occupants of your home or office. I remember when a client called me in April and asked if it was too late to receive her annual update, because her family had experienced great financial losses since the beginning of February. I advised her that it was never too late for her to remedy the Annual Money Lock that was causing the financial problems they were experiencing since the Annual Energy shift on February 4th of that year. However, the best time to remedy any sabotaging energy combinations is before they have an opportunity to create problems.
Another cyclical Feng Shui influence each year relates to several directions where you want to AVOID digging and/or construction to prevent adverse affects on your health or the health of other occupants in your home or office. By construction, I’m NOT referring to painting or wallpapering projects. Construction is remodeling, not redecorating. Construction involves saws, hammers or other tools used to tear down or build something. During this Chinese SOLAR year (Feb. 4, 2008 to Feb. 4, 2009) you want to avoid digging and/or construction in the SW, SOUTH, SE & NORTH section or directions both inside and outside your home and office.
If it’s impossible for you to avoid a digging and/or construction projects in those areas or directions in the Chinese SOLAR year of 2008, you must PROTECT your HEALTH with METAL. When the construction project is an inside job in one of those areas between Feb. 4, 2008 to Feb. 4, 2009, be sure to have and keep METAL in the area until the construction project is completed, even if metal isn’t the remedy that’s required according to the annual energies affect on your building's inherent energy pattern in that section. For instance, you may need an Earth remedy in one of those sections. However, if construction is unavoidable… you must replace the Earthen object with METAL until the construction project is completed to avoid health problems.
For a quick Metal fix inside during construction this year in the SW, SOUTH, SW or NORTH direction you can use metal exercise weights. Make sure to use exercise weights that are NOT covered with vinyl, because the air currents will only be touching vinyl. Remember, that it’s always important that the air currents are able to come in contact with all your Feng Shui remedies to affect the Qi in the area. Therefore, be sure your weights are uncovered where the air can touch them. In other words, METAL can’t prevent health problems during construction if it’s covered by a drop cloth or placed in a cabinet. The amount of Metal that you need is relative to the size of your unit or building. For instance, a 1,000 square foot apartment or office would need around 10 pounds of Metal.
When you have an outside digging and/or construction project in one of those directions this year, either on or off your property (even if it’s your neighbor’s project), you’ll need to position METAL between the project and your building until it’s completed. Outside is the only circumstance where metal wind chimes make an excellent metal remedy to avoid health problems from digging or construction projects in one of those directions. However, do NOT use metal wind chimes indoors as metal remedies, because they could create problems. It’s easy to position a metal wind chime almost anywhere outside with a wall bracket or on a pole, such as a ‘shepherd’s hook,’ both of which are sold in most garden centers for hanging plants.
The subject of the directions to avoid digging always brings up a vivid memory of a client’s call that began with… “Everyone’s OK, but I just have to tell you what happened.” She went on to explain that while she was digging in her garden in one of the directions where digging was to be avoided that year… her 2 year old stepped in front of the bat, just as her 6 year old was following through on a swing. That’s when she realized she didn’t have the required metal to prevent health problems when digging in that direction that year. Thank God the doctors said he would be fine and he is.
Did you know… the Sun doesn’t always rise in the East? In fact, due to the Earth’s rotation, part of the year it rises in the Southeast or the Northeast. That’s why you can’t use the Sun to judge where the directions to avoid digging or construction are in relation to your home or office. Feng Shui works with the magnetic fields of Earth. Therefore, you’ll need to use a compass to establish where magnetic North is to be certain you are avoiding digging and/or construction in the appropriate directions from the magnetic center of your home or office.
To take a basic compass reading you must go outside and stay away from metal objects, which will distort your compass reading. Align the sides of your compass parallel with the sides of your building or unit. Be sure to stand up straight and hold your compass level, so the arrow is quivering freely. Once the arrow settles and is pointing to magnetic North, turn the North markings on the compass dial to match where the arrow is pointing to set your compass reading.
Without moving the dial, take the compass inside to the center of your home or office and align the sides of your compass to the same sides of the building… to identify where the markings show you’ve established magnetic North is in relation to your home or office. This is the only scientific way to confirm exactly where SW, SOUTH, SE and NORTH are actually located to allow you to avoid digging and/or construction in 2008.
