How a Divided Bed
Causes Health & Relationship Problems!
by P.K. Odle, The Feng Shui Advantage
Feng Shui literally translates “Wind Water.” You may be curious as to… “why would the ancient Chinese name a science that analyses the Qi or ‘life force energy’ in and around buildings Wind Water?” The answer is simple, because the currents of Wind and Water are how Qi moves.
Because Feng Shui influences surround you on a daily basis, they’re as vital to your well being as air and water. Doesn’t it make sense to manage the Feng Shui influences that are under your control? First, start with what you can see… which is called ‘Form School Feng Shui,’ because these influences are visible to the naked eye.
You may already be aware that sleeping or sitting for long periods directly under an exposed beam causes various health and relationship problems depending on how the beam is positioned in relation to your body. The reason for this is because the air currents circulating in your room hit the sides of the beam and are directed straight down on your body. This is referred to as a ‘direct hit of Qi.’
Coffered ceilings (where the ceiling in the center of the room is raised) are currently popular with builders in many parts of the world. However they’re as bad as an exposed beam; because the Qi hits the sides of the indention and comes down to hit you directly on your head, throat or chest.
However, there IS more to Classical Feng Shui than meets the naked eye. Your home and all buildings, are divided into 9 equal energy sectors or palaces as they were called in ancient times. The energy patterns in each sector either supports or sabotages your finances, health and relationships on a daily basis. Classical remedies made of one of the 5 elements (Earth, Metal, Water, Wood or Fire colors) are used to neutralize sabotaging energy patterns. All Classical Feng Shui remedies must be out where the air or water currents can come in contact with them, or they can’t affect the Qi in your environment or building.
Picture that tic-tac-toe type grid draw over your entire house. The dividing lines between each of the outer 8 sectors of the grid have the same affects as an exposed beam. In other words, they’re like INVISIBLE BEAMS. Keep in mind, that odd shaped homes usually require professional advice to be correctly divided.
- When an exposed beam, indented ceiling or energy grid-line chops across your body from side to side… health problems develop in that region of your body. While discussing the position of a bed in her guest room, I advised a client not to be concerned for her guest’s visiting for only a few nights. When I showed her that an exposed beam was directly over the abdominal area, I mentioned that it could cause reproductive problems. She then informed me that the guest room was their master bedroom when she has to have a hysterectomy.
- An energy grid-line, indented ceiling or exposed beam stretches from head to toe across your body… you’ll have extreme health challenges that affect your whole body. I have had numerous cases where clients with chronic fatigue were sleeping in beds that positioned their bodies directly between 2 energy sectors.
- Two sides of your bed divided from head to toe BETWEEN your 2 pillows by an indented ceiling, exposed beam or energy grid-line… puts the harmony of your union is in jeopardy. A bed divided could cause separation or even divorce. A couple in Louisiana described this situation best when they said “It’s like we're sleeping in the same bed, in different rooms.”
If you find yourself with one of these situations, the best remedy is to MOVE your bed to a better location. The most important factor in choosing a bed location is… that your entire BODY is in only ONE sector of the whole house grid, even if it means that you’re not sleeping in one of your personal supportive directions. You also want to RELOCATE other OCCUPIED furniture, such as desk chairs, sofas or recliners… so you aren’t under exposed beams, indented ceilings or divided between 2 energy sectors, especially if you spend long periods of time in those positions.
Other remedies for exposed beams are:
- If you’re dealing with decorative exposed beams… REMOVE them, especially from bedrooms or offices.
- Cover the exposed beams either with an actual ceiling or make a ceiling with THICK (so the Qi / air currents can’t pass through), MULTI-COLORED (so it doesn’t represent any of the 5 elements predominantly) FABRIC… stretched tight across the beams over your bed or desk area.
- Another way to deflect the Qi coming down off the sides of exposed beams is to add decorative crown molding to the sides of the beams in order to deflect the flow of Qi. It’s important to extend the crown molding the entire length of the beam, because where the molding stops the Qi will be able to make a direct hit on anyone below that section of the beam.
If you’ve read any of the popular do-it-yourself Feng Shui books, you’re probably wondering… why I haven’t mentioned flutes, ivy, lights or paint as remedies for exposed beams. It’s because they are all ‘Folk Belief’ cures that aren’t used in Classical Feng Shui, because none of them stop the air currents from coming down the sides of the beams and hitting you directly.
In addition to interacting with the air currents, Classical Feng Shui remedies must blend with your décor. In fact, no one needs to know that you’re managing the Feng Shui influences on your daily life, because when your remedies are implemented correctly… there’s no reason why anyone would be able to distinguish your remedies from the rest of your belongings
